Biografie

Pink Floyd war eine britische Rockband, die von 1965 bis 1995 Musikgeschichte schrieb und auch danach noch Kultstatus genießt. Die Band wurde von Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters und Richard Wright gegründet. David Gilmour trat 1967 bei und übernahm bald eine führende Rolle. Ursprünglich spielte die Band in der Londoner Underground-Szene und wurde schnell für ihre innovativen und psychedelischen Klänge bekannt.

Der internationale Durchbruch gelang Pink Floyd mit dem Album „The Dark Side of the Moon“ im Jahr 1973. Das Album, das sich über 45 Millionen Mal verkaufte, blieb über 14 Jahre in den Billboard 200 Charts und gilt als eines der erfolgreichsten und einflussreichsten Alben der Musikgeschichte. Das Konzeptalbum, das sich mit Themen wie Zeit, Geld, und psychischen Krankheiten auseinandersetzt, ist für seine aufwändige Produktion und innovative Klangeffekte berühmt.

In den folgenden Jahren veröffentlichten Pink Floyd eine Reihe von Alben, die allesamt große Erfolge waren, darunter „Wish You Were Here“ (1975), „Animals“ (1977) und „The Wall“ (1979). Letzteres, ein Rock-Opern-Album, wurde auch als Spielfilm adaptiert und enthält den berühmten Song „Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2“.

Die Band war bekannt für ihre spektakulären Live-Auftritte, die aufwendige Lichtshows, Projektionen und aufblasbare Figuren einschlossen. Ihre Konzerte setzten neue Maßstäbe in der Musikindustrie und zogen riesige Menschenmengen an. Trotz ihres großen Erfolgs waren die Beziehungen zwischen den Bandmitgliedern oft angespannt, was schließlich 1985 zur Trennung führte, als Roger Waters die Band verließ.

Pink Floyd setzte ihre Karriere ohne Waters fort und veröffentlichte weiterhin erfolgreiche Alben wie „A Momentary Lapse of Reason“ (1987) und „The Division Bell“ (1994). Die Band trat 2005 für ein einmaliges Konzert beim Live 8 Wohltätigkeitsfestival wieder zusammen, was von Fans und Kritikern gleichermaßen gefeiert wurde.

Bis heute hat Pink Floyd weltweit über 250 Millionen Platten verkauft. Ihr Einfluss auf die Musikgeschichte ist unbestritten, und sie werden oft als eine der größten Rockbands aller Zeiten betrachtet. Ihre Musik und ihr Vermächtnis leben weiter, und sie inspirieren auch weiterhin Generationen von Musikern und Fans.
