I was walking in a foreign land
A place I′d never been
10 long days no one spoke to me
My thoughts were skinny and mean
Alone at dusk on the cathedral steps
I stopped to take a rest
When suddenly coming around the bend
Was a face I knew
It was my old friend
When we met she was a little girl
And now she'd grown so tall
And now the world was small
When she saw me she was so surprised
Tears were filling up her diamond eyes
We hugged and laughed in the evening light
Making a scene for the people passing by
The street was thinning like a dried up creek
She put her hand in mine and started walking right beside of me
We talked and talked so many things So much times and broken dreams and things we could not understand
And trying to love anyone or be anything
Someone made her lie for many years
She had to sing a song that she didn′t believe
She didn't want to sing it to me
I said tell me here in this foreign land
Where no one else can understand
To laugh and cry, to live and die
What do you think it means
And she said to me
Oh my life has been a beautiful dream
Something you'd never believe
And oh my life has been a tragedy
Random and pointless and cruel to me
And my heart is a cavern you could never fill
And nothing nothing ever will
