Anything Songtext

There in a box tied with a ribbon
Lives the old lie I′m always given
Back to myself, sing to myself
"You can do anything"

Slowly I've learned distance can soften
Memories of blows that I felt often
Difficult days disprove the phrase
You can do anything

Now there′s many ways of bringing up your children
You can't reduce it to a single work of art
But all those positives need a few negatives
But not so many that they're beaten from the start

Whether cruise boats full of retirees
And the nut jobs you see in libraries
All say the same, all of them claim
You can do anything

And even though they′re not right
And I couldn′t hit a barn door
Their encouragement helps me not feel more

Now there's many ways of bringing up your children
You can′t reduce it to a single work of art
But all those positives need a few negatives
But not so many that they're beaten from the start

There in a box tied with a ribbon
Lives the old lie I′m always given
Back to myself, sing to myself
"You can do anything"
