Doin' the Math Songtext
von Loudon Wainwright III

Doin' the Math Songtext

All of that time, where did it go
What did you do and what have you got to show for it?
Doin the math is kind of a bummer,
You best avoid crunchin′ that number

Where are they now and what are they doing
Everyones ancient at your high school reunion
Doin the math don't bring satisfaction
Theres no more addition its all subtraction

Doin′ the math is just a mistake, when it's almost over
And lifes a heartbreaker
The people you knew are all starting to die
And your in that que and you're wondering why?

You use to believe you would life forever and a world without you
Couldn′t be no way never
Doin the math will just bring you down,
Gravity and time will put you back in the ground.

All right- Get down - get back - stay there

They say that middle age, it′s almost over
Flip a calender page, can't run for cover.

Doin the math aint much of a thrill
Us boomers have been busted man, we re over the hill

Doin the math is just a fools errand,
There′s no way to know and no use in carin
That body of your is no longer friend and your
Mind starts to wonder where and when will it end?
It's gotta end.

You may make it to 80 or you could kick tonite
Either way to me... it just don′t seem right
Doin the math will leave you cold, ...li
Fe is too short when you get this old
A monkey, a dog, a horse,
And giraffe... there all gonna die but they don't do the math

Doin′ the math is kind of a bummer
You best avoid crunchin that number.
