Birds in Train Stations Songtext

Birds in train stations
I guess there could be worse places to be
The ones that are caught in airport terminals
Just seem scared that they′re in there

Birds in train stations
Aren't rushing to the platform with their things
They′re fighting over food until it's knocked down on the tracks
And they'll fight for it there

Everybody got to get somewhere
Everybody got to see something that they′ve never seen
Everybody clinging to their passport
Everybody sits in second class for the scenery
Birds in train stations like you and me

Birds in train stations
Gare du nord goes straight to Waterloo
And you tisk when I suggested we′re just a beggar like the rest
With our palms stretched out above our heads

Birds in train stations
Hear the same announcements everyday
Except the ones in Italy because there's always some delay
And they move at a different pace

Everybody got a get a picture
Everybody got to prove they′ve been there
So they believe
Everybody feeling so important
Everybody wants to put some roots down
To have somewhere to leave
Birds in train stations like you and me

Birds in train stations
Guns with bayonets held to the chest
And it's been just so damned long
Since we questioned such a thing
That we pretend just not to see

Birds in train stations
All seem pretty tired of the city life
Can you imagine just building a nest
In a place that you thinks the best
With no one getting in your way

Everybody′s got to be a tourist
Everybody lying but the truth is
That we've been deceived
We thought that we would be a different person
If we took a week away and did some searching
Somewhere overseas

Birds in train stations
Like you and me
