My Dad Songtext

My Dad Songtext

There′s been a death in the family

The first I've ever known
My papa passed away last week

He was getting old

You called me and you picked me up
On the day that papa died
We talked for a while in your truck
We reflected on his life
We ate salad in Naperville
You told me about your dad
Stories I had never heard
The sweet, the good, the sad
I got my stubbornness from you
And you got yours from him

You and I are more alike
Than I would ever admit

And I don′t mind it
I am raising my white flag
I am grateful to call you my dad

We had our share of problems
Back when I was a kid
We butted heads, we dug our heels
Strong-willed and strong-minded
Now we're cleaning papa's house
And I see it for what it is
You′re organized, you′re logical
Sentimental, pragmatic
Driving on the highway
You told me about your dad

Stories I had never heard
The sweet, the good, the sad
I got my stubbornness from you
And you got yours from him

You and I are more alike
Than I would ever admit

And I don't mind it
I am raising my white flag
I am grateful to call you my dad
