An Exquisite Decline Songtext
von zeedfilippo

The grandfather clock is ticking backwards tonight
The shadows are dancing in the pale neon light
I′m pouring hot tea inside a porcelain shoe
And painting the ceiling a dark shade of blue
My thoughts are like pigeons trapped inside a small cage
I'm reading a book that has no words on the page
Oh, the tea is getting cold, but the kettle still screams
I′ve misplaced the keys to all of my dreams
It's a beautifully tailored, exquisite decline
And I think I am losing this mind of mine!
I'm losing my footing, I′m sliding away!
The colors are melting to shades of slate gray!
It′s terribly charming, this elegant mess
I'm wearing my madness like a velvet dress!
Oh, look at the teacups, they′re starting to fly
I'm waving to sanity, kissing it goodbye!
I′m beautifully undone
The cat is explaining the meaning of art
While I try to count every beat of my heart
I'm putting on gloves just to open the door

And checking if gravity still holds the floor
My wits have departed on an evening train
There′s a beautiful circus inside of my brain
Oh, the mirrors are laughing, they know it's a show
Where the actors forgot where they're supposed to go
It′s a wonderfully styled, theatrical crime
And I′m running completely out of time!
I'm losing my footing, I′m sliding away!
The colors are melting to shades of slate gray!
It's terribly charming, this elegant mess
I′m wearing my madness like a velvet dress!
Oh, look at the teacups, they're starting to fly
I′m waving to sanity, kissing it goodbye!
I'm beautifully undone
One, two, the sanity's through
Three, four, don′t look at the floor
It′s all just a game in a velvet frame
Totally, utterly, beautifully insane!
I'm losing my footing, I′m sliding away!
The colors are melting to shades of slate gray!
It's terribly charming, this elegant mess
I′m wearing my madness like a velvet dress!
Waming to sanity
Kissing it goodbye
Just a little bit eccentric
So beautifully undone
