Telling Stories Songtext
The smell of rain in the summer always takes me back
When my grandpa would take me to the railroad tracks
Telling stories, hopping freight trains and going west
He′d tell me many stories when I was down
About rambling through some dusty town
And laying 'neath a big oak tree by the river′s edge
Telling stories, when he was a kid
And rain was the only thing that he hid from
I still see him smiling at those old days
Telling me stories as the train rolled by
The final click of the track, we'd wave goodbye
Stop and listen to the whistle as it rolls away
Well, the summers passed like the click of the track
Grandpa took a train that ain't coming back
I still see him lying by the river′s edge
Every time I see a freight, I expect to see him
Sitting in a boxcar with a Cheshire cat grin
Living out new stories and heading west
Telling stories, when he was a kid
And rain was the only thing that he hid from
I still see him smiling at those old days
Telling me stories as the train rolled by
The final click of the track, we′d wave goodbye
Stop and listen to the whistle as it rolls away
Telling stories, when he was a kid
And rain was the only thing that he hid from
I still see him smiling down the river's edge
Telling me stories as the train rolled by
The final click of the track, we′d wave goodbye
Stop and listen to the whistle as it rolls away
Stop and listen to the whistle as it rolls away
When my grandpa would take me to the railroad tracks
Telling stories, hopping freight trains and going west
He′d tell me many stories when I was down
About rambling through some dusty town
And laying 'neath a big oak tree by the river′s edge
