On a hillside far away
So warm the air but bodies swayed
There′s no explaining it I swear
But on this site beyond compare
There was magic as the midnight told
A stone-age quarry stark and old
A township lasting for all time
A sonic sound at once sublime
And wondrously played
A serenade

The music soared in Úbeda City
On this sacred strand of land
The sounds of saints were in our hands

And hanging from the rooftop there
I noticed her of red streamed hair
Reminded me of days gone by
My automatic arm raised high
I made a cymbal crash, an oboe cried
A subtle mist then a rising tide
Of swirling sounds that wouldn't hide
A melody that never died
And hadn′t ever strayed
Then that serenade

The music soared in Úbeda City
The orchestra so strong, no midi
Cut through the air, the blend so pretty
Harmonies that varied quite
The strings were running swift and light
We were high and all so giddy
Amidst the happy cries
In this fair city

So in this mystic distant place
A starry sky, deep purple space
While the players played a slight breeze came
I thought of you and I heard a name
And in a quiet passage dark
That sound, a dragon's beating heart
The beauty of a young boy's grace
A perfect nose, his momma′s face
And the ensemble played
That serenade

On this slight small piece of earth
We witnessed a symphonic birth
Nate, Mike, and Chris and Dave
Lisbeth sang the song to save
Drums like rockets true the flight
And horns that blasted clear and bright
But so sad, such a pity
Close friends weren′t in Úbeda City

But those who were there witnessed fact
In this ancient town, this Spanish tract
We found a bond, we formed a band
Inspired by the treasured sand
And then those hills around did sing
And if I'm not mistaken, I saw them swing
A rousing close to one fine day
And once again that big band played
Only softer now
So pure and unafraid
One last serenade
