Sometimes I feel like the freshet, suddenly thawed, roaring forward
Sometimes I feel like a stone, letting it all wash over me

In the summer, later, you can see the scars on the trees
A bleached line where the water lapped over the rocks


All it takes is a dry month for a roaring body of water
To evaporate bit by bit
Rocks jutting through, unaware of how unpassable it is
River bed, dry ground, unaware of how unpassable it is
