The little fly got suspicious and asked the spider why
The spider smiled her secret smile and from her web she said
"My friend, let′s have brie and crackers and a glass of Almaden
And we can talk about philosophy and talk about detente
I'm really starved for conversation, we′ll do anything you want
So just come into my parlor fly I'll make it worth your while."
Then the spider dreamed of silver threads and smiled her secret smile

"Come a little closer" said the spider going on
"I'd really like a new relationship, the kind you count upon
Since I kinda trust you fly, I′m gonna give it to you straight

That poets only write about the things they know they cannot do

Well they′re knitting together, the silver spider and pretty fly
And they are taking care of business as the days go buzzing by
There's a thousand little silver
Threads that the spider′s gone and spun
And since fly took up her invitation, her web is almost done
Fly has got a volume started but it's really kinda slim
He calls it "Got No Fear Flying", there ain't no flies on him
Neither one are having nightmares and they′re happier than I
And that′s the ending of the story of the spider and the fly
Well, she fought against her nature
She fought against her wish
She said "Come on over here little fly honey
I just wanna give you a sweet, sweet..."
