GOT–JFK Songtext

GOT–JFK Songtext

After the first glass of wine went to my brain
I fell asleep against the airplane′s window pane
A stewardess came by to collect my tray
Squinting, I pulled up the window shade

Saw ice shelves breaking loose
From the southern tip of Greenland as we cruised
Comfortably on cruising altitude
A crevasse forming cross the plain
I pulled down the shade and whispered your name

You told me not to follow you
I said I'm not, I have my reasons too
I have a wedding gig, I said, but eschewed
That it′s two performance artists I've asked to help me through

"Patience," you said, I said, "Sure
I'll give you all the time you need to explore
Who it is you′re becoming, but before
You forget me, I want to make sure
That you know the only thing worth melting glaciers for is you"

The wedding is in Brooklyn, in a bar
Not the diviest of dive bars, but still a bar
And it′s not a wedding, it's a wedding picked apart
A performance piece I′m not sure I'd call art

But I′m grateful for their help and I do my part
I put a suit on and set up my guitar
While I wonder just how close you are
A voice whispering to me in the dark
"Time for the ceremony to start"
