Farewell sweet Jane, I now must start
Across the foaming sea
My trunk is now on Johnson′s bars
With all my company
I see the sails are on the ship
They all are ready now
Give one sweet kiss before we start
A mighty deep correspond

She wet my lips with flowing tears
And I did kiss her hand
Think of me sweet Willie dear
While in a foreign land
My bosom felt a feeling then
It never felt before
At length we all did wind our ball
To dig the golden ore


The first three years I labored hard
A-digging out my wealth
I lived on bread and salty lard
And never lost my health
I loaded up my trunk with gold
And then I thought of Jane
An anxious feeling home return
Across the ocean waves

I saw a crowd of lovely girls
Come marching to the ship
I saw sweet Jane with all her curls
And I begun to skip
I flew and met her on the walk
We both were full of charm
We were both so full we could not talk
I caught her in my arms

The parson read the marriage law
That binds us both our lives
Now Jane's mine without a doubt
A sweet and lovely wife
