The Haunted Songtext
von Gary Kemp

A sadness has settled in this old damp house
Like a layer of dust on the ground
The rooms lay quiet, ashamed of the silence
That once were a hubbub of sound
She closes the door and feels the cold air
And the thoughts that preside in her head

Ooh, the haunted
Ooh, the haunted

The garden grows over the footsteps of youth
That had beaten their joy on the earth
Where flowers once smiled, the weeds now reviled
And tugged at those petals with mirth
He stands in the street, as grey as the sky
And repeats what he should have said

Ooh, the haunted
Ooh, the haunted

Wind howls through chambers of hearts
Ash blows softly through the air
She feels the pain about to dig in
A splinter of love still under her skin
He walks slowly through the darkened night
Head bowed low with the weight of it all
A piano plays from across the street
Another soul trying to make ends meet

The wallpaper peels and the pictures are gone
Just shadows now mark where they were
Love lies in landfill, ground to a standstill
Its sharpness already a blur
She fumbles for more but can′t shake the past
She finds she's still taking to bed

Ooh, the haunted
Ooh, the haunted

Rubble gets sifted when you′re looking for gold
But only dirt stays in your hands
It once had the price of a palace of ice
But now it no longer stands
He tries to find peace through the traffic of thoughts
He admits he's still struggling to share

Ooh, the haunted
Ooh, the haunted

Wind howls through chambers of hearts
Ash blows softly through the air
She feels the pain about to dig in
A splinter of love still under her skin
He walks slowly through the darkened night
Head bowed low with the weight of it all
A piano plays from across the street
Another soul trying to make ends meet

Ooh, the haunted
Ooh, the haunted

Oh, we sleep alone
In pieces of broken home
We are the haunted
We are the haunted
Oh, we sleep alone
And the cold lies in our bones
We are the haunted
We are the haunted
Oh, we sleep alone
In pieces of broken home
We are the haunted
We are the haunted
Oh, we sleep alone
And the cold lies in our bones
We are the haunted
We are the haunted
Oh, we sleep alone
In pieces of broken home
