Mistaken Identity Songtext

Mistaken Identity Songtext
Everyone has a double
Or so the saying goes
Someone they resemble
Know what I mean?
The Germans have a word for it
They call it a doppelganger
There′s a look-alike for our very own dear Queen
But lately it seems we've each acquired a rather famous double
And frankly, all it′s brought us is
Trouble, trouble, trouble
You'd never believe how many people stop me in the street
And say "I know who you are, you're Naomi Campbell"
The public can′t stop gazing ′cause the resemblance is amazing
And no matter where I go, I cause a scramble
We've both paid the price of fame
And the profile is the same
And like her, my previous agent cannot bear me
Compared with her, my earnings are zero
But we′ve both had Robert De Niro
Oh, is it any wonder people think I'm Naomi?
Whenever I′m in a restaurant in Washington or Beijing
And I daintily prepare to take a small bite
As I'm lashing on the butter
The maitre d′ will mutter
"That distinguished woman there is Madeleine Albright"
Well, I'm mightily offended
To be thus misapprehended
When I'm out campaigning
Winning hearts and minds
But I seek to rise above it
So I tell the guy to shove it
′Cause obviously I′m Teresa Heinz
Kerry!
Oh, yes
Yeah, I frequently go to the hardware store to purchase a pot of paint
And invariably they cry "It's Martha Stewart!"
Well, I never buy off the shelf
I made this top myself
And afterwards I′ll show you how to do it
I grow rosemary, sage, and thyme
My baking is sublime
I instinctively know the minute a cake has risen
Now I'm collecting bark and twigs
And I′m caramelizing figs
To decorate my cell when I'm in prison
If we go out as a foursome
We′re simply mocked by fans
Who say "We can't believe you've got back together"
Well, it was flattering at first
Until we realized the worst
And between ourselves we′re right at the end of our tether
They′re all convinced, you see
That we used to be on TV
And we're a legendary group of gorgeous hunky studs
Oh, the crowds get into a fever
If we don′t give them "I'm a Believer"
And all because they′re certain we're The Monkees
All because they′re certain
Absolutely certain
Positively certain we're The Monkees
Hey, hey, we're The Monkees
Guess who must be daily
Or so the saying goes
Someone they resemble
Know what I mean?
The Germans have a word for it
They call it a doppelganger
There′s a look-alike for our very own dear Queen
