When the Last Tree Falls Songtext
von Eric Bogle

When the Last Tree Falls Songtext

When the last tree falls to the forest floor
When the last bird′s song is heard no more
Then we'll know what we′ve done to this earth our home
Time to pay the piper, reap what we've sown

When the last river turns to dust and sand
When the angry sun burns the life from the land
When the last lies are all told and our last chance denied
We'll have nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide

This world we once knew, it′s fading fast
Was a fool′s paradise anyway, never destined to last
We were given a garden to cherish and hold
In our arrogance and greed it's been poisoned and sold

So when the last whale dies on the last harpoon
When the last wolf howls at a blood red moon
When our last hopes die along with our dreams
Will our last thoughts be of what might have been?

When the last tree falls to the forest floor
When the last bird′s song is heard no more
Then we'll know what we′ve done to this earth our home
It's time to pay the piper and reap what we′ve sown

Time to pay the piper and reap what we've sown

And if the last tree ever does fall to the ruined earth below
What will we do, where will we go?
If the last tree ever does fall to the ruined earth below
What will we do, where can we go?
