The Road Songtext

Pick me up at any time that might work best for you
I′m only going if you're going too
It sucks the most because it′s self-imposed
Who will I be when I am finally out on the road?

I tell my friends I'm getting better, but it's so barebones
Cause I can′t hardly do half of the hard thing on my own
And on the good days I′m paraded and they show me off
I play the longest game of chicken cause I still can't cross the road

Flash-forward fiction I get what I want
Driving in the pitch black pushing 80 with my brights on
With nobody to ease my indecision or to tell me off
I make predictable mistakes, which might be half the fun

Flying down the highway I know just the song
To make me feel like dying in the driver′s seat is just a thought
And I have everything I couldn't picture I could even want
Maybe someone even asks me for a ride for once

But like all great works of fiction, it comes to an end
If I don′t work toward the daydream, it just stays pretend
And I'm not sure where I′m headed, not a clue of how I'll go
But I keep my hands at 10 and 2
I do everything I'm supposed to do

I keep my eye on the road
I won′t lose sight of the road
I′ll spend my life on this road
I'll live and I′ll die

I'll live and I′ll die
I won't lose sight of the road
