Marigold Songtext
von David Lowery

On jets I flew southward
To a strange metropolis
I rode in jitneys and taxis
And stuttering streetcars
Crowds they dwindled
And roads they turned to tracks
Villages of marigolds
Marigolds

I flew over oceans
I climbed over mountains
I walked through the jungle
Marigolds

I took my last days
I took my last chances
I gave all I had
Marigolds

Celebrate the virgin
And the patron of this church
Brass bands play waltzes
That march to the beat
Snaking through the alleys
The Incan gods retreat
Where are you
Marigolds
Marigolds

I flew over oceans
I climbed over mountains
I walked through the jungle
Marigolds

I took my last days
I took my last chances
I gave all I had
Marigolds

In a conquistador of doubt
A friendly hotel bar
Antique pistols
And Cortez on the wall
A babble of voices
The tower starts its fall
Where are you
Marigolds
Marigolds

I flew over oceans
I climbed over mountains
I walked through the jungle
Marigolds

I took my last days
I took my last chances
I gave all I had
Marigolds
