Endless, Aching Dance Songtext

Endless, Aching Dance Songtext
Well he was home for a week
And ready to leave
A victim of drought
Awaiting relief
Cattle dropping like flies
You hear them sing as they die
Like a lullaby to a rough night′s sleep
All fear all day
He drank his pay slips away
And the rifle looked tempting
When he was shooting at strays
When you're living to work
But you work like a slave
You spend day in and day out in chains
But oh no
Anything goes
When the sky is empty
And the water is low
When debt and death go
Hand in hand
It′s an endless aching dance
I stared into his eyes
With a fire and flame
And he sat in my face
When the hard eyes came
Stuck beef in his flesh
And numbered his days
Down by the abattoir gate
I went back to my room
And cleaned off the blood
I wiped my hands
On the cowskin rug
And I lay down forever
Through that hole in the wall
I died to escape it all
But oh no
Anything goes
When the sky is empty
And the water is low
When debt and death go
Hand in hand
It's an endless aching dance
And ready to leave
A victim of drought
Awaiting relief
Cattle dropping like flies
You hear them sing as they die
Like a lullaby to a rough night′s sleep
All fear all day
He drank his pay slips away
And the rifle looked tempting
When he was shooting at strays
When you're living to work
But you work like a slave
You spend day in and day out in chains
But oh no
Anything goes
When the sky is empty
And the water is low
When debt and death go
Hand in hand
It′s an endless aching dance
I stared into his eyes
With a fire and flame
And he sat in my face
When the hard eyes came
Stuck beef in his flesh
And numbered his days
Down by the abattoir gate
I went back to my room
And cleaned off the blood
I wiped my hands
On the cowskin rug
And I lay down forever
Through that hole in the wall
I died to escape it all
But oh no
Anything goes
When the sky is empty
And the water is low
When debt and death go
Hand in hand
It's an endless aching dance
