Driftwood surging in the surf, bobbing
Greedy time has faded footprints
Robbing the sand of a summer′s trail

Driftwood nestled on the shore, freezing
Cruel wind rushing through the reed tops
Teasing me for wanting you


Not too long ago
The beach was a sea of happy faces
With a rainbow of umbrellas
To shelter their embraces

But what is there that shows now?
Just a vagabond piece of driftwood
Hanging around for the snows now

Driftwood dons my mantelpiece, dusty
One glance and I know it must be
So very long ago
