Why are people named after flowers
As if they will grow up to behold
Beauty like the softness of a petal

We give ′em out at special occasions
Birth and death and love and growing old
We cut 'em from the ground and try to save ′em
In hopes they'll stay alive after they're sold


On another planet we are flowers
And alien, they put us in a vase
To impress the beings at their parties
To liven up their space

I′ll admit that I love having flowers
Around my home
But only when they are given to me
I never kill flowers on my own
