I had a thought and opened a new AI thread to flesh it out
I′m not alone in this practice
Many of us reference AI daily now
The same way we once referenced encyclopedias, search engines
And the friend who always seemed to know the answer


A new model had recently been released and I wasn't impressed
We had a cordial back-and-forth, the AI and I
We both agreed the name didn′t match the product
A whole-number jump in any version sequence signals a significant advancement
This didn't appear to be that

I'd entertained AGI and ASI possibilities for years
Watched techno-maximalists peddle their certainties
With the confidence of men who′d never questioned whether their certainty was earned
I stayed skeptical that large language models could achieve true general intelligence
Breathtaking as they are, they require a breakthrough we haven′t seen yet
To transcend human reasoning, vision, and intuition would take something more than scaling
More than data
Something more than the next release in a long line of version numbers
Something of that magnitude would need to come from elsewhere
