Hand Me Downs Songtext

Hand Me Downs Songtext
My first bike had a banana seat on it
Bright orange with a sunshine on the side
The handle bent and my cousin didn′t want it
So that summer I learned to ride
Mm-mm, mm
There's a worn-out denim pearl snap in my closet
When I got it, it was already getting old
The bottom′s frayed and the color's gone
Even the hanger that it's hanging on
Is wishin′ I would let it go
Like some other things I know
Daddy′s anger, and his pride
My mama's sadness, she taught me how to hide
There ain′t a damn thing that's ever just been mine
I′m out here walking around
In hand-me-downs
I'm a wrecking ball when I get lonely
Courtesy of my old man′s old man, and his old man
And that ain't the kind of heirloom that I wanted, oh, and don't it
Make me think I′m only made of broken things that I can′t stand
My daddy's anger, and his pride
My mama′s sadness, she taught me how to hide
There ain't a damn thing that′s ever just been mine
I'm out here walking around
Oh, in hand-me-downs
Oh, and damn it, it′s gonna take a long time
But if I can just understand it
And leave something better behind
And if that's the only thing that's ever just mine
They won′t put me in the ground
Oh, in hand-me-downs
Hand-me-downs
Oh, in hand-me-downs
Hand-me-downs
Bright orange with a sunshine on the side
The handle bent and my cousin didn′t want it
So that summer I learned to ride
Mm-mm, mm
There's a worn-out denim pearl snap in my closet
When I got it, it was already getting old
The bottom′s frayed and the color's gone
Even the hanger that it's hanging on
Is wishin′ I would let it go
Like some other things I know

My mama's sadness, she taught me how to hide
There ain′t a damn thing that's ever just been mine

And that ain't the kind of heirloom that I wanted, oh, and don't it

Hand-me-downs
Oh, in hand-me-downs
Hand-me-downs
