U.S.S. Tullibee Songtext

The USS Tullibee
No one knows where it′s gonna be
They say it's lost somewhere out at sea
But the crew′s still in the hull
They call themselves the Atlas holding up the sea
Except there ain't no place where they'd rather be
They won′t knock on the golden door
They just keep on chuggin′ on eternal patrol

Cliff Kuykendall had the midnight shift of the second patrol
When the radar light turned red
The port side was hit, and cliff had to admit
There wasn't much he could do
The water rushed in, lost both engines
The Tullibee was flying home

The USS Tullibee
No one knows where it′s gonna be
They say it's lost somewhere out at sea
But the crew′s still in the hull
Well, they hung on to all the photos they could
But the lovely faces didn't do them good
They knew they′d never see 'em again
Cuz when the sub went low well the luck ran thin

Cliff climbed to the deck, and waited for the rest
But the crew never came up
As his hope begin to drag, Cliff waved his flag
Shoutin' S.O.S.
But Uncle Sam′s Canoe Club, wasn′t fit for the long run
And the ship had only thirty feet to go
Cliff jumped out, started swimmin' South
Like a black bird fading into blue

Sayin there goes my home
There goes my home
There goes my home

The USS Tullibee
No one knows where it′s gonna be
They say it's lost somewhere out at sea
But the crew′s still in the hull
They call themselves the Atlas holding up the sea
Except there ain't no place where they′d rather be
They won't knock on the golden door
They just keep on chuggin' on eternal patrol
