I pour a glass of hearty wine
I set the table straight
I wear my jacket and my tie
And at the door I wait
Guests arrive in finery
And start to load their plates

Someone tell me if you could
Is this a wedding or a wake?


I stand before you all my friends
We hold our glasses high
We drink a toast to life and love
And all that surely dies
To loves revealed and hopes concealed
And who we need forsake

Tell me now am I the host
Of a wedding or a wake?

Well the guests are gone
And the hall is bare
I′m alone with my mistakes
But the answer still remains at large
