Extra Mile Songtext

Extra Mile Songtext
Imagine me younger
and bummin′ around
an academy town
– ghost of campus,
doglegging
across that lightening lawn.
I could write my name on
any surface.
I sent out a wish
to the stars in the plough.
It's a memory now...
Season′s edge.
How serene does it get?
It's the second-best thing to a cigarette.
Something shiny against the gloom.
It's become my emotional alphabet.
The snow′s coming down
on the Rue du Cool Shoes
When the gatekeeper crews
come to find me.
Crushed down into dust then,
I blew through the street
where the rainmakers meet.
Life passed by me.
I saw you again
in the babbling crowd.
You were shouting aloud:
Fix your eyes! Stand your ground. It′s cool to laugh.
You can ask for the actor's autograph
but he′s only made out of light...
All that's left of you now is this paragraph.
Extra mile –
hard and good,
all on foot.
I threw into a game
that I′ll never win
and I blew it.
So screw it.
I'll start again.
I′ve hung out on some holy turf,
but it never comes out to much.
I have shone in a silver surf.
There's a song can I almost sing
and I think it could be my special thing.
It can turn to a kind of crutch.
It unfolds like a kind of wing.
and bummin′ around
an academy town
– ghost of campus,
doglegging
across that lightening lawn.
I could write my name on
any surface.
I sent out a wish
