I count the years ahead backwards
I′ll discount this past decade as borrowed
I figure I'll figure it out as and when
But I document this day just the same

I count the years ahead with vigilance
Will we be merry or will you be crying?
We figure we′ll figure it out as and when
But I document our days just the same


And we won't live to summon us
As the days get longer so will these pages
And we won't read or reminisce
Long-form is when we are all the ages

I count the years ahead in my head
But I don′t count them as numbers or a fragment
It figures that it figures itself out in the end
But these documents, they keep us
