i am teething at 23
and embarrassed to talk about it
they started poking through and now
it′s like a first tattoo
in that it takes some getting used to in the mirror

i am soon to be 24
and my birthdays have started feeling ever more frequent
me and simon stayed up late
so I could pick at simon's brain about that
he said "28′s the midpoint of experience"

and i just peeked inside my mouth
to see the crowns of the last new bones my body will conjure
and then another year of life
and then the race past 25 and past the point of no return for getting better

and then i'll find out about brand new forms of pain
and for the first of all the times i′ve made such grand discoveries
i′ll be the very last in line to get 'em through my mind
plus this time they can′t be blocked from social media

plus i'm halfway through my life and getting weary
