Between the Wars Songtext
von Tom Juravich

Between the Wars Songtext

I was a miner and I was a docker
I was a railway man between the wars
And I raised a family in times of austerity
Sweat at the foundry between the wars

I joined the union and as times grew harder
Looked to the government to lend a helping hand
But they bought prosperity down at the armory
Arming for peace, my boys, between the wars

I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand
Theirs is a land with a wall around it
Mine is a faith in my fellow man

Theirs is a land of power and glory
Mine it is the green fields, the factory floor
Theirs is a sky all dark now with bombers
Mine is the peace we knew between the wars

So call me the craftsman, bring me the draftsmen
Make me a pathway from cradle to grave
And I′ll give my consent to any government
Who will not deny a man a living wage

Go call the young men never to fight again
Bring me the banners of the days gone by
Sweet moderation, it's the heart of this nation
Desert us not, we are between the wars
Desert us not, we are between the wars
