On my front porch every night
People watching from the gate

Do their lives ever change?
Do things always stay the same?

Watchin′ cars go flying by
Drivers terrified of being late
Do they
Feel they're losing track of time?
In a sad way I relate
But I
Tell myself it's all a lie
This feeling I can′t shake
Trapped in a routine when I wake
By the stability they chase

On my front porch one more night
Fighting sleep that ends the day
I can′t count sheep to leave in peace
If I wake up in disarray
I won't
Live just to forget
Won′t betray what the mirror sees
Won't rise to sink down to the depths
Won′t forsake myself for normalcy
