Springfield Road Songtext
von The Navigators

I met me love a-walkin′ in the merry month of May
When the birds are singin' sweetly, and the lamb do sport and play
She told me that she loved me and for me she would prove true
If you would stay with me, me love, then I would stay with you

And we walked along the dam and the birds sing loud and gay
It′s there I met me bonny brunette, she stole me heart away
Her cheeks they were like roses red, and her skin as white as snow
She is the darlin' of my heart, the pride of Springfield Road

Now would we be married, for my love has named the day
And happy we will be together as we go on our way
We'll have a charmin′ little house and a garden for to till
And bring the children up like us to work at the cotton mill

And we walked along the dam and the birds sing loud and gay
It′s there I met me bonny brunette, she stole me heart away
Her cheeks they were like roses red, and her skin as white as snow
She is the darlin' of my heart, the pride of Springfield Road

I′ll bid you all good night for to her parents I must go
To see if they will have me now, or if the answer's no
She said they′ll treat me decent and my glass they'll surely fill
And drink a health to the bride and groom that works in the cotton mill

And we walked along the dam and the birds sing loud and gay
It′s there I met me bonny brunette, she stole me heart away
Her cheeks they were like roses red, and her skin as white as snow
She is the darlin' of my heart, the pride of Springfield Road
