Just Like Henry David Songtext
von The Kennedys

Just Like Henry David Songtext

My father was a teacher
He walked in the woods
Just like Henry David
He could live off the land
If anyone could
Just like Henry David

But his brother wanted more than a teacher′s pay
Lumber trade, my dad used to say
He might even build a log cabin someday
Just like Henry David

Well we lived in the east most of our lives
Just like Henry David
We planted our beans in bed every night
Just like Henry David

My uncle lived in Oregon out by the sea
Executive branch of the company
But he could identify every tree
Just like Henry David
Just like Henry David
Just like Henry David

Well a poet grew up in a hillside town
Just like Henry David
He watched as they came and cut the tall trees down
Just like Henry David
He played in the stumps that the clear cut left
Twelve feet high and twelve in width
And the wind whispered to him, "Do something 'bout this"
Just like Henry David
Just like Henry David
Just like Henry David
