Downtown Chicago. For more than 30 years, our guests have been
Thrilling audiences with their harmonies and their message. They
Are known around the world by gospel music enthusiasts, and over the
Years they′ve come to be called the best. They are The Cathedrals
And they're our guests tonight, right here on the Friday Night Sing!


Thank you very much, and welcome to our program. It began in 1964
When Southern gospel was just becoming popular. Evangelist Rex
Humbard featured a trio on his program, The Cathedral of Tomorrow

The mainstay of that trio was the distinctive sound of lead
Vocalist Glen Payne. When they decided to add a fourth member
To the trio, bassist George Younce was asked to come along. From
There, they branched out into their own full-time concert ministry
There have been changes over the years, personnel, some stylistic
But the sound and the message and the songs are the same
And after all these years, it is a great pleasure to welcome
For the very first time to the Friday Night Sing, The Cathedrals
