Dear Melynn Songtext
The backs of heads in silhouette
All turn bargains so their bodies aren′t filled with dread
The checkout lady is too impatient to be very nice
That's when I notice you comparing white with wild rice
I hadn′t seen you in many years since you went away to school
We'd never spoken much like some sort of unwritten rule
You look my way, mouth agape
Oh my, you're Erin
I think in solo and gosh you′re looking great
What have you done with your life?
Do you remember who I am?
And so I tell her I′m just a drifter and I beg for my hand
I do remember there was a reason we could never fall in love
She says we'd dance and sing and spin around
Hold her hand and toggle upside down
We′d shake and fought from mind to mind
Our ups and downs were the mesh of perfect time
And dusk would set her eyes ablaze
Our thoughts would watch on us and be amazed
I slowly fluttered back to life
While wondering if she was someone's wife
I remember you and those eyes
That always seemed intimately used
They seem so full now so it′s much easier
That eye contact we avoid
God knows the stories we would create
And snuff out all the its and buts
Your souls were ones that touched the sky
You ruled the world with diets of dew or tide
The paging out the sun would near
Make those views of a breath that disappear
The store is run by alley cats
That slept for chores and served sales of matter
And moments since that washing cars
And the kids all knew we're living tops with cars
Lynn, I′m so misled
What's in those sighs and those eyes?
Why are they so red?
Do those around you say they understand
The things that you've read?
I′d love to write some more about you
But I′ve just run out of ink
We separate unto the zone
Where the hair apart to our separate roles
It's something I am forced to face
You call the curtains in a fadeaway
We′re going home to set the line
That coexists in three construction sites
And from all this I can surmise
Was it worth it all just to claim I'm wise?
All turn bargains so their bodies aren′t filled with dread
The checkout lady is too impatient to be very nice
That's when I notice you comparing white with wild rice
I hadn′t seen you in many years since you went away to school
