I remember the ancient world

The darkened trees that grow without the sound
And the long winds that whisper

It was not long ago and far away
It was a crowded land that seemed to hold
All winds and clouds and dreams that come to town
With their books rustling in the long, long wind
And the dark, dark woods where blood is not at all

Oh soul of mine, burn out those shadowed tales To clouds and winds and ghosts that shun the sun
How many deaths shall serve to break at last
This heritage which wraps me in the grave
Of peril and dust
