All Together Now Songtext
von Stephan Smith

All Together Now Songtext

Said the frog when he jumped and he ran into a toad
On a one-way street to the open road
From the redwoods going up to the sky
To the DC streets where the homeless lie
To a policeman wondering who he′s working for
And to a soldier wishing that there wasn't any war
And from Harlem to the heartland
In digital time to some grains of sand

Been a long time running
But a longer time coming
And I know now it won′t be very long
Before we all finally join in song
Together now
All together now
All together now

From a hip-hop singer with machinery
To my niece learning hop sitting on my knee
To a farmer putting his land for sale
To Mumia Jamal speaking from his jail
To an honest man who came at last
To the angry one who feels outcast
By a world of competition
When we all know that makes it hard to be friends
And why churches burn down in Birmingham
All the way from Baghdad to Jerusalem

Been a long time running
And a longer time coming
But I know now it won't be very long
Before we all finally join in song
Together now
All together now
All together now

Well I wrote this song in the town of New York
One heck of a place to find honest work
With my hands all busted from fixing cars
When I knew I'm better at playing guitar
And I heard a rap singer singing "Join Your Hands"
Over top of an AM radio playing "This Is Your Land"
From a P-Funk nation under a groove

To a whole wide world singing "We Shall Not Be Moved"
And it all started sounding like one big song
And I know right now it won′t be very long
Before we′re singing together
All together now

All together now
