Would I Do the Same Again? Songtext

Would I Do the Same Again? Songtext
On my deathbed tonight here in prison
I′ve been serving a sentence of life
The court found me guilty of murder
For killing my dear loving wife
The jail doctor says I am failing
They're fighting to save my last breath
They′re wasting their time for there's nothing
In this life that I want more than death
The terrible doubt I have lived with
The question tormenting my brain
Although there was no way to save her
Would I do it all over again?
All through the trial in the courtroom
Deep in shock I had nothing to say
I offered no plea nor defenses
So in handcuffs they led me away
She was trapped in our truck that was blazing
As it rolled I was thrown clear and free
So I ran to the wreck where it rested
Upside down, crushed against a big tree
There was no way in which I could free her
Through the crushed window gap I could see
As she reached for my rifle and thrust it
Through the gap in the cab out to me
Shoot me quickly, she begged, you can't free me
Put an end to this terrible pain
With her clothes all ablaze she was screaming
Then I fired one shot in her brain
There are misty clouds swirling before me
As the cold prison bars disappear
And a soft angel voice whispers to me
I have come to be with you my dear
And a soft angel voice whispers to me
I have come to be with you my dear
I′ve been serving a sentence of life
The court found me guilty of murder
For killing my dear loving wife
The jail doctor says I am failing
They're fighting to save my last breath
They′re wasting their time for there's nothing
In this life that I want more than death
The terrible doubt I have lived with
The question tormenting my brain
Although there was no way to save her
Would I do it all over again?
All through the trial in the courtroom
Deep in shock I had nothing to say
I offered no plea nor defenses
So in handcuffs they led me away
She was trapped in our truck that was blazing
As it rolled I was thrown clear and free
So I ran to the wreck where it rested
Upside down, crushed against a big tree
There was no way in which I could free her
