Endless Chain Songtext

Endless Chain Songtext
In marble halls
An endless chain
Of saintly queens glide by
Their tethered dresses whisper
As soft as dying sighs
They know him so well
The man who tolls the golden bell
They listen for the knock
Upon the ancient door
But know enough to never ask
Who he′s knocking for
You cannot bargain
With he who has no desire to sell
Nor buy the time of day
From beggars at the wishing well
Ivory fingers clutch
Blood red rosary beads
They promise any faith they find
To trust in where it leads
Underneath their slippered feet
The bones of soldiers lie
Those who followed when
The drummer boys led them out to die
They know him so well
The man who tolls the golden bell
Wandering weaver of dreams
Writing 'half of what you see
Isn′t half of what it seems'
You cannot bargain
With he who has no desire to sell
Nor buy the time of day
From the dreamers at the wishing well
Feasting on the stars, split and spill
Calling out the count of those
Who woke in hell
Signs point to places
We can travel if we dare
We journey many miles
Til we can see we're past despair
Down below the palace walls
The countryside is bare
And the rusty roads to fortune
Go by ruins past repair
Forests of the night
Smother cries beneath their bows
Tortured branches ache
For the one who holds the crown
An endless chain
Of saintly queens glide by
Their tethered dresses whisper
As soft as dying sighs
They know him so well
The man who tolls the golden bell
They listen for the knock
Upon the ancient door
But know enough to never ask
Who he′s knocking for
You cannot bargain
With he who has no desire to sell
Nor buy the time of day
From beggars at the wishing well
Ivory fingers clutch
Blood red rosary beads
They promise any faith they find
To trust in where it leads
Underneath their slippered feet
The bones of soldiers lie
Those who followed when
The drummer boys led them out to die
They know him so well
The man who tolls the golden bell
Wandering weaver of dreams
Writing 'half of what you see
Isn′t half of what it seems'
You cannot bargain
With he who has no desire to sell
Nor buy the time of day
From the dreamers at the wishing well
Feasting on the stars, split and spill
Calling out the count of those
Who woke in hell
Signs point to places
We can travel if we dare

Smother cries beneath their bows
Tortured branches ache
For the one who holds the crown
