One day I ventured in love never once suspecting
What the final result would be

There's ache and pain in my heart
For the name of one that I hated to face
Somebody else came up to win her
And I came out in second place

Now the race is on and here comes pride up the back stretch
Heartache′s a-going to the inside
My tears are holding back and trying not to fall
My heart's out of the running
Too low to scratch for another's sake

And the winner loses on
