Another day has come and gone
What light there is casts shadows on the walls tonight
There is no danger during the day
But at night the warfare begins and
You do your best to tune it all out
Since you were sent down all you think about is when it′s going to end
And all the people important to you that you left behind
You just stare at the walls and all their photographs

Did you think it would come to this?
You thought you had it all worked out for the best
But in the end you took a fall you didn't expect
Days go by each the same as the last
Work saves your sanity
Eating restores your strength
And sleeping kills your anxiety


You get a letter or two from some of your friends
Occasionally it′s just a gesture of remembrance
You know better now and put it down to experience
And you try to accept
And you try and you fail
And you try and you try and you try
And so the story goes

You're still smoking and wishing you could quit
But it's the only thing that gets you through your pangs
Of feeling like life′s escaping you
You see commercials on TV
That bring back so many memories
You know little things
That hurt to even think about
Makes you think about all the good times
And mistakes you′ve made

You've got a long time to ponder now
Maybe to begin again
Too much time to think about all the
Things that are out of your control

And you try to forget
