All Eyes Surrender Songtext

All Eyes Surrender Songtext
Light dapples down leaded glass
Like fleeting power in this old house
And rooms rumble with the sound of silence
While the croquet lawn replays its games
Sons and daughters usher the dawn
Destined for corridors in Whitehall
Kids who never had to toe the line
Here lie mysteries labyrinthine
And did you know they planned a D-Day here?
I can still see their shadows on the walls
Hear their footsteps down Churchill′s halls
As I turn the room with the girl of the ball
And all eyes surrender on me
When I was with her, all eyes were on me
Then Leo jumped from that plane
And our hearts were never the same
We sang to her sister sweet goodbye
In the Wills Chapel under a darkened sky
We stole port from the cellar that night
We toasted to love in imagined firelight
One boy knew the price of that bottle
Where I'm from, kids didn′t know that stuff
We ate banquets in candlelit halls
Silver service, cigars and tales
If you're told you're special every day
You might start believing it must be that way
And all eyes surrender on me
When I was with her, all eyes were on me
The century turned and the towers came down
Bookmarked by men like Cheney and Eisenhower
Drinking in the shade of the Doomsday Oak
Across its rings our histories are wrote
And I came home to a room just the same
My girlfriend had cheated with a Liverpudlian
And the small town never knew I′d been away
As the dream of Mandalay began to fade
And the gravity of events unfolds
Like spinning atoms or Fermat′s code
But outsiders are often the ones
Able to recount the uncountable costs
And all eyes surrender on me
When I was with her, all eyes were on me
When I was with her, all eyes were on me
When I was with her, all eyes were on me
Like fleeting power in this old house
And rooms rumble with the sound of silence
While the croquet lawn replays its games
