I know I shouldn′t but I wanna hold you tight because
Typically, I'm not a jealous guy
And I know that you′re not mine
But seeing posts about your male friends makes me want to cross the line

And I know I shouldn't feel like I'm committed to you
But your changing actions always got me confused

How can you say we′re only friends?
I feel like you′re trying to pretend
That you didn't mean to kiss me at the open mic
It makes me wonder if you do the same
To anyone else because I feel ashamed
That I feel conflicted
When I know it′s not a crime

I didn′t wanna write about you again so soon but I
Just feel like I'm caught inbetween
Some beautiful mess that I just can′t clean


And you say you only think of me as a friend
But I feel like the rules have just been bent

How can you say we're only friends?
I feel like you're trying to pretend

And even when I know you joke
I want to punch the nose
Of whoever's my "competitor"
And even when I′m self-aware
I want to earn that stare you give me
When our eyes are locked
That split second when our eyes meet

How can you say we're only friends?
