I was declared a child of god
Before I even knew I was a child at all
Why′d they draw a cross on my head
Why'd they get my dress all wet
With the water from the lake
I swim in every day

Suddenly as if magically
Pastor John made it holy
Whatever that means


I was told I live in God′s country
I guess that's why theres such a big sky
He has more room to look down
I bet he's looking at me right now
In my green Easter gown
I don′t make a sound

Or say anything less than sweet
Walk lightly like a lady
Whatever that means

I am not a woman of the church
And that′s because I'm just a girl
I shudder at the sound of bells
I believe there is no hell
Below my feet
No devil out to get me

I will not live in fear
And I will not fear living
Whatever that means
