Do you believe in the future?
I wish I could
Life seems so much easier that way
"I don′t believe in the future"
The hard truth's slowly crept up on me
I′d never looked twice to the black side before
Mom always called me an optimistic kid
But no I don't believe in the future (anymore)
The lack of vision just doesn't sell it
I used to listen to podcasts of tech CEOs and think they were cool...
They were gonna save the world
Looking far away into the future while we trusted them to do that
With no culture, not a thought for history and no telescope


I don′t believe in the future
Now I′d rather make art and grow my own food
While the imaginary children I never had learn to walk
Now I'd rather stay in and feel a lone fool
While the marchers in the streets earn that talk
I′m caught inside among monsters born out of a past that won't die
And a new world that won′t arise
I feel little to no nostalgia but I just don't get excited anymore
I′m living in the moment but not in a mindful, meditative kind of way
Acceptance by default
No subscription
No consent
Resilient's the new buzzword for not being given a choice anymore
Tolerant's your new swearword for not getting offended by hate anymore
You′ve got it all packaged quite nicely have you?
And I guess, I guess, I –
I guess it brings me down

Self-respect is out of scope
Kindness is out of scope
Engines on, with an empty cargo
Launch, What a drag

Thought I′d stopped believing in the future
But when I listen to you
The way you short-sightedly fear all other living creatures
How you lose trust at the first slight sight of difference
The way you steal, the way you plunder
What we thought was common wealth
And your constant, adamant conclusion
That Man is a wolf to Man
I can't but think my lack of faith
Leaves more to hope than constant stealth
I want to believe in the future but
Do you?
