North Coast Blues Songtext

North Coast Blues Songtext

The sun rose on the stockyard walls
Like I′ve seen a thousand times before
The priest came in to talk about mercy
The sergeant nodded by the door
I couldn't get to sleep last night
From the roar of the stadium
They said if I could have kept myself out of trouble
They′d let me go before the wintertime's come

Tear another page off the calendar
That's about as good as it gets
There′s something here that I′m supposed to do
But they ain't said what it is yet
Their kindness is a sleight of hand
One gives while the other takes
And if you fall before your time is up
They say it′s just a lucky break

They say the south coast is a wicked coast
I came north to find a better life
Said goodbye to my only son
Spent the last night with my wife
Now what I got is what I started with
Even that I'm bound to lose
So if you hear you better say a prayer
And hope you never get the north coast blues
