Atoms fused in sequence
An alchemy wielded
To tear the stars out from the sky

In winters past we would dance beneath them
Welcomed to the movement of seasons
The assurance of each thing
Having its place

But now ash does not melt on the tongue
A slow smothering - a shroud for the dead
Sculpting out angels to mark where they fell

Burnt clothes tinseled on
A smoldering corpse
Loose strands of hair
Tangled around
Charred bone
But for a second
We turned night into day


And as the light fades away
We know we have killed god
And in our image, unmade

Nothing remains to reclaim
We set fire to heaven

Malice unrestrained
Falling up the escalatory chain

To blistering in the fallout
