At some point in history—no one is sure when—a mango appeared in the void. There was no tree, no backstory. Just a mango, floating. After an indeterminate amount of time, it split in half. Inside was Pango. Fully grown. Wearing headphones
Shortly after this event, various inexplicable phenomena began occurring. The ocean started making a faint but consistent drone pad. Gravity became slightly syncopated. Certain birds learned how to beatmatch. Historians have largely ignored these developments
Records of Pango′s early activities are sparse. One document suggests he once played a 16-hour ambient set for an audience of highly focused cows, which, to this day, produce slightly more protein-rich milk. Another places him at the top of a never-ending escalator, DJing for a crowd that could never quite reach him
At some point, he vanished. Some say he accidentally slipped into 7/8 time and hasn't been able to find his way back. Others claim he is still performing, just in a location so illegal that no one has had the courage to check
Occasionally, a faint kick drum can be heard in unexpected places—inside abandoned hadron colliders, beneath ancient burial grounds, through the static of untuned radios. Experts disagree on its origin. Pango has not commented
