Thunder Road Songtext

It was a Friday night and the sun was just going down
He was off from work driving home westbound
The highway was still wet from the afternoon rain
When a big rig driving east swerved in the westbound lane
Supper was getting cold he was never out this late
Worry turned to panic at half past 8
We tried his phone a million times and the girls waiting at the door
When that call came mama tumbled to the floor
The radio was playing Thunder Road
The headlights danced circles around the guardrail

For a moment deathly silence
Then a distant siren′s wail
Shattered glass covered the pavement
Like freshly fallen hail
He was at a disadvantage it was two against 18
That night smelled like burning tires and gasoline
I didn't know what to say guess I was too young to understand
So I prayed a silent prayer and held mama′s hand
The radio was playing Thunder Road
The headlights danced in circles around the guardrail

For a moment deathly silence
Then a distant siren's wail
Shattered glass covered the pavement
Like freshly fallen hail
Shattered glass covered the pavement
Like freshly fallen hail
