Sonny Songtext
(Na, na na na)
(Na, na na na)
Last night my soul had arisen
As my body laid down to rest
My passing time was not given,
But I guess the old man knows what′s best
I wish I could've told those in the morning
So they knew that I wasn′t playing dead
'He's missed a breakfast without a warning′
′I'm sure he′s just confined to bed'
But I′ve met my mark
And I don't know how to restart
I′ve made it clear
What I want them to do
When I finally lose
And by the time the chicken was roasted
And my great-grandbabies were fed
Sonny left home, unlike most did
Because I was spinning his head
He knew I never locked up early
I knew it was from the night before
And the doorbell was not ringing
So he was knocking on Heaven's door
And heard no response
Ten minutes felt like a month
Once they got in the home
My figure was there,
But my spirit was gone
The room took up the sound of silence
Broken only by Channel 8
As I watched them drive for miles
While the ravens up and flew away
Sonny drove behind the red van,
Tears streaming down his pretty face
I tried my hardest to wipe them,
But god knows it's not my place
The lights were out
And the siren made no sound
Smiles would turn to frowns
If he could just make his calls
But the towers were down
And the rain poured down even harder
From the sky and Sonny′s golden eyes
The ambulance drove even slower
It was the only thing in sight
Sleep was catching up to the young man
And his trembling hands lost the wheel
The van went left around the dirt bend
But never stopped cause he couldn′t see
The following car
Headed for the trees
And Sonny appeared
Next to me
(Na, na na na)
Last night my soul had arisen
As my body laid down to rest
My passing time was not given,
But I guess the old man knows what′s best
I wish I could've told those in the morning
So they knew that I wasn′t playing dead
