Newcomers Songtext

Newcomers Songtext
One... Two...
A′one, two, three, four
Did you cross over the bay bridge?
And did you fly over the clouds?
Did you wrap your finger 'round the layout
Of this little old harboring town?
Did you see Mary, the planter?
And did you see Robert, the cop?
Did you ask for direction
To the town′s only vacant lot?
They're not fond of newcomers
You'll have to gain their trust
They′re so shut out from the rest of the world
You can′t even get there by bus
You'll have to sit there trying to make things right
While they spit at you for not being God′s delight
And all you want to do is make your way back home
Have you made it to the town square?
And have you seen Homeless Joe?
Have you given money
To the whole neighborhood's favorite hobo?
They′re not fond of newcomers
You'll have to gain respect
One mistake and the whole damn thing,
Well it′s probably wrecked
You take a drive to town and greet everyone
But nobody around wants you in their home
And all you want to do is leave this dreadful town
Will you go down to the town park?
And will they try to send you back?
Will you let them control you
Like you're in the palm of their hand?
Oh,
They're not fond of newcomers
You′ll have to play their game
Soon enough, you′ll come to find out
They all act exactly the same
You try to talk to everyone and act all nice
But they don't want none of your city advice
′Cause they'll come around now that this is your home
A′one, two, three, four
Did you cross over the bay bridge?
And did you fly over the clouds?
Did you wrap your finger 'round the layout
Of this little old harboring town?
Did you see Mary, the planter?
And did you see Robert, the cop?
Did you ask for direction
To the town′s only vacant lot?
They're not fond of newcomers
You'll have to gain their trust
They′re so shut out from the rest of the world

While they spit at you for not being God′s delight
And all you want to do is make your way back home
Have you made it to the town square?
And have you seen Homeless Joe?
Have you given money
To the whole neighborhood's favorite hobo?
They′re not fond of newcomers
